This is a friendly community reminder from the Irvine Police Department that Daylight Saving Time will begin on Sunday, March 12, 2023. This is also a great time to think ahead and reevaluate your daily routine. Here are some specific safety tips to consider to enhance your safety and the safety of others:
Invest in light timers, place them in various rooms in your home and set them to turn on and off at different times
Gradually adjust your sleeping schedule leading up to March 12, 2023 to avoid fatigue
Change necessary clocks the evening before daylights saving
Understand that time changes force adjustment from everyone, but other people may not adjust the same way you do, so be patient with others
Set aside extra time in your schedule so that your routine is not so predictable. Change the way you drove home or the way you drive to work.
Check your car maintenance; such as tires, oil, fluids and windshield wipers
Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
Check your video camera placements and your ability to retrieve footage
Take inventory of your residential belongings, including serial numbers and photos
Ensure that your safety deposit boxes and bank accounts are current and paid for
Secure your public storage units with an adequate lock, check it regularly and keep an inventory of the contents
Evaluate if your trees or shrubbery are overgrown
Please take these safety tips into consideration in order to ensure an easier adjustment to the upcoming Daylight Saving Time while also staying safe throughout the year. The Irvine Police Department appreciates your time!
